What is PRINCE2 project management?

The PRINCE2 (Projects In Controlled Environments) qualification is a globally recognised project management methodology.

The PRINCE2 methodology is in the public domain and provides best practice guidance and structure for project management across all industries.

Initially developed by the Office of Government and Commerce in the UK, PRINCE2 remains popular within both the public and private sectors. PRINCE2 is now the standard project management methodology in the UK, with a strong influence in Europe, Australia and the Middle East.

How do I get the PRINCE2 certification?

The PRINCE2 is divided into two separate certifications: PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner.

The PRINCE2 Foundation will teach you the principles and terminology found within the methodology. To achieve it, you’ll need to study for and pass the PRINCE2 2017 Foundation Exam.

Once you hold the PRINCE2 Foundation, you’ll be eligible to take the PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Exam. As the Practitioner is more advanced, additional study will be required before undertaking this exam.

What are the benefits of a PRINCE2 certification?

Should I take PMP or PRINCE2, which is better?

The PRINCE2 and PMP certification are both well-known and highly respected project management certifications. They’ll both boost your project management skills but vary significantly.

Created in the U.S., the PMP is the primary project management certification for North America. The PMP certification is built around PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) and requires five years of project management experience as a prerequisite.

The PRINCE2 was created in the UK and remains the more popular project management certification across Europe. As the PMP requires significant project management experience, the PRINCE2 also remains the preferred option for entry-level project managers.

Duration: 60 minutes
Number of questions: 60
Passing Score: 33/60 to pass (55%)

PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Exam

Format: Open-book examination (only the PRINCE2 Manual is allowed)
Duration: 2.5 hours
Number of questions: 68 (based on a scenario)
Passing Score: 38/68 to pass (approximately 55%)
